Abbott defends Tapping Intel Australia

" There is no illegality in the action . Anyone who has evidence , they must show the evidence , " he added .
DSD is now called the Australian Signals Directorate ( ASD ) , is believed to be intercepting the metadata information e - mail and telephone . Metadata that can be taken by the intelligence for not threaten the security of Australia .
Known as metadata information stored by telecom operators . The data including telephone numbers , e-mail address , date , time , location and duration of telephone calls . However metadata does not include the contents of the data calls or e - mails .
