" More than 100 inmates died in prison in Zimbabwe since January 2013 . As the center has begun and the place had been turned into a death trap , " an official statement said Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human ( ZLHR ) , as quoted from Ahram , Wednesday ( 12/04/2013 ) .
The group also confirmed that the Institute for Justice and Service , had complained of death of the inmates to the Parliament of Zimbabwe . According to ZLHR , cause of death inmates because of diseases related to malnutrition caused by lack of food and a number of other natural causes .
" Food supplies are incarcerated have touched the point of dangerous , because because they lack the financial resources and they have to provide food rations for the 18.460 prisoners , " the group added .
ZLHR also explains the state only gives the allocation of funds for food in prison Rp 3 , 5 billion . While the funds needed for food alone amounted to Rp11 , 9 billion .
Similar events have occurred in prisons in Zimbabwe in 2008 . When the Zimbabwe government argued the economic crisis is the main cause of famine and death in prison in Zimbabwe .
At that time , the International Committee of the Red Cross ( ICRC ) to intervene to provide the basic needs of prisoners . I wonder what will be done by the ICRC see this report .
